The Elements of Tea

Today was a perfect day to forage and mix some of my favorite teas. Drinking herbal teas is an incredible way to incorporate herbalism in your life in a very simple way.

Start simply in your local grocery store and start experimenting with different types of herbal tea. Keep a tea journal and start documenting the flavors and types you like the best.

Begin your next step on your tea journey…

Select your herbal items. Either from your personal dried stores or purchase from a reputable herbalist or herbal store

Select

Take inspiration from blends you enjoyed from your previous experiences or from your herbal tea journal.

Choose flavors you like. Experiment and give yourself permission to try something. It’s OK if it isn’t great.

Add your herbs to a tea ball or even a coffee filter.

Mix

Make sure to document what amounts you used. When you find that perfect mix that you adore, write it in your tea journal and also on your container.

Document good and bad mixes. It will help you when you try your next tea tasting.

When you find a mix that you truly enjoy, make a larger batch to save and share.

Store

Use an air-tight container. Wide mouth mason jars are great. Washed out spaghetti jars work really well. I refrain from using plastic. I generally use glass jars or even wax paper bags. If you want to get fancy or maybe gift your new tea blend, you can get kraft paper zipper bags with resealeable zippers. That is especially nice for gift giving.
